Spear fishing 101

Spear fishing is really fun. It's pointing a spear at a fish and letting the spear go, stabbing the fish. First two times I went, I got nothing. Third time though we went to black sand beach in Makena, way out on the reef. I hit a Kole fish, or a yellow eyed surgeonfish. Apparently the water magnifies everything, especially the fish I was hunting. What looked like a dinner plate below me ended up being about the size of a baseball. Also, I was really scared because the other two people with me, my husband and our friend Robbie, had swam father than they could hear me. All I could think about is: SHARKS CAN SMELL BLOOD MILES AWAY. I held the fish out of the water on the spear and swam to the guys. Oh I never lived that down. Below are some of the riches of the ocean. We thank the ocean for our catch and are grateful for the opportunity to hunt for our own food.
