They say watching the ocean for 15 minutes a day and decrease anxiety and minimize depression. I think so too. There is nothing more beautiful that a Maui beach. Teal to royal blue tones really bring out the happy vibes! Sometimes it looks pretty enough to swim in. That's a whole nother story.
Swimming in the ocean takes skill and practice.
A. Sets- waves come to the shore in sets. Two at least, sometimes 3. If one has just come, you can count on there being another coming. This is helpful if the waves are big. Then you can be responsible for knowing another is close behind.
B. wave break- this is where the wave crests over itself to actually become a wave
C. Break zone- the area of the beach you can count on waves cresting
D. The falls- the top of the crest of the wave. Going over this falls could result in broken bones or paralyze you.
E. Eating shit-going to happen if you don't pay attention to the rules below
Basic rules for ocean swimming I think every person who swims in the ocean should know:
1. The ocean can kill you. Don't get into it without being able to get out of it. If you've never gone into the ocean before, have someone who knows what they're doing take you through it.
2. NEVER EVER EVER turn your back on the ocean. The ocean is unpredictable and changes constantly. One wave is calm, the next is 8 feet tall.
3. When going into the ocean, waiting until a set of waves passes. Then hustle out past the wave break zone. Don't fuck around if the ocean is active.
4. Don't swim in the wave break. That's where the power ocean breaks necks. Swim behind the surf zone.
